Airbnb Turnover Cleaning: The 5-Star Checklist Hosts Should Use Every Time

A guest-ready checklist built for tight checkout-to-checkin windows — with the details that protect your reviews and keep your listing competitive.

Why a checklist matters for Airbnb turnovers

Back-to-back bookings leave no room for guesswork. One missed detail — a hair in the shower, an empty soap dispenser, a stained pillowcase — and you're looking at a 4-star review instead of a 5. Over time, that adds up.

This checklist is what we use for every Airbnb turnover we handle. It's built for speed (most turnovers take 4–4.5 hours) and covers the details that guests actually notice and mention in reviews.

Kitchen

  • Wipe all countertops, backsplash, and cabinet fronts
  • Clean stovetop, burners, and drip pans
  • Wipe microwave inside and out
  • Clean refrigerator exterior and handles (check inside for leftover food)
  • Run and empty dishwasher — wipe interior if needed
  • Scrub sink and polish faucet (no water spots)
  • Wipe small appliances (coffee maker, toaster, etc.)
  • Mop floors and wipe baseboards
  • Restock dish soap, sponge, trash bags, and paper towels
  • Take out all trash and replace liners

Bathrooms

  • Scrub shower/tub walls, corners, and grout lines
  • Clean and disinfect toilet (base, behind, around bolts)
  • Wipe vanity, drawers, and mirror (streak-free)
  • Replace used towels with fresh, folded sets
  • Restock toilet paper (at least 2 rolls visible), hand soap, and shampoo/conditioner
  • Mop floors and wipe baseboards
  • Empty trash and replace liner
  • Check for hair — drains, floors, counters

Bedrooms

  • Strip and remake beds with fresh linens
  • Fluff and arrange pillows neatly
  • Dust nightstands, dressers, lamps, and headboard
  • Vacuum floors (including under bed edges)
  • Check closets — empty hangers, clear shelves
  • Wipe light switches and door handles
  • Set thermostat to a comfortable arrival temperature

Living Areas & Common Spaces

  • Dust all surfaces — TV, shelves, coffee table, side tables
  • Fluff and arrange couch cushions and throw pillows
  • Fold and drape any throw blankets neatly
  • Vacuum floors and rugs thoroughly
  • Wipe remotes, light switches, and door handles
  • Check that TV, Wi-Fi, and streaming services are working
  • Arrange welcome materials, house manual, and local guides

Outdoor & Entry

  • Sweep porch, patio, and entryway
  • Wipe front door (inside and outside) and handle
  • Check porch light is working
  • Clear any debris from walkways
  • Set out welcome mat (clean or replace if worn)
  • Lock all windows and check all door locks

The top review killers (what guests complain about most)

These are the details that show up in negative reviews most often. If you're short on time, check these first.

  • Hair in the shower drain or on bathroom floors
  • Stained or wrinkled bed linens
  • Leftover food in the fridge
  • Sticky kitchen counters or stovetop grease
  • Dust on ceiling fans or TV screens
  • Empty toilet paper roll or no hand soap
  • Smudged mirrors or streaky glass
  • Trash left in any bin
