Spring Cleaning Checklist for Northern California Homes

A practical, room-by-room spring cleaning checklist you can tackle yourself — or hand off to a professional. Covers everything from oven interiors to HVAC filters.

Why spring cleaning matters in Northern California

After winter — even a mild one — dust, pollen, and grime build up in places you don't normally see: inside vents, behind appliances, on ceiling fans, in window tracks. Spring is the perfect time to reset your home before the warm months.

This checklist covers the big stuff. You don't have to do it all in one day — spread it over a weekend or a couple of evenings. Or call us and we'll knock it out in one visit.

Kitchen

  • Clean inside oven and oven racks
  • Clean inside refrigerator — shelves, drawers, door seals
  • Pull out refrigerator and clean behind/underneath
  • Clean inside microwave (top, sides, turntable)
  • Degrease range hood and filter
  • Wipe all cabinet fronts and handles
  • Clean inside cabinets and drawers (remove crumbs, wipe shelves)
  • Scrub sink, faucet, and garbage disposal
  • Clean backsplash and countertop edges
  • Mop floors and clean baseboards
  • Wipe small appliances (coffee maker, toaster, blender)
  • Organize pantry — check expiration dates, wipe shelves

Bathrooms

  • Deep scrub shower/tub — walls, corners, grout, glass doors
  • Clean and disinfect toilet thoroughly (base, behind, around bolts)
  • Clean inside bathroom cabinets and drawers
  • Wipe vanity, mirror, and light fixtures
  • Wash or replace shower curtain/liner
  • Clean exhaust fan cover
  • Mop floors and clean baseboards
  • Check and replace expired products

Bedrooms

  • Wash all bedding — sheets, pillowcases, duvet cover, mattress pad
  • Flip or rotate mattress
  • Dust ceiling fan, light fixtures, and vents
  • Dust and wipe all furniture surfaces
  • Vacuum under bed and behind furniture
  • Organize closets — donate clothes you haven't worn in a year
  • Wipe window sills, blinds, and curtain rods
  • Vacuum or clean curtains

Living Areas

  • Vacuum under couch cushions and behind furniture
  • Dust shelves, entertainment center, and decor
  • Clean TV screen and electronics
  • Wipe baseboards and door frames
  • Dust ceiling fan and light fixtures
  • Clean windows (interior) and window tracks
  • Spot-clean upholstery or schedule professional cleaning
  • Vacuum rugs and mop hard floors

Whole House

  • Replace HVAC filter
  • Test smoke detectors and replace batteries
  • Clean all light switches and door handles
  • Wipe all baseboards throughout the home
  • Clean all vents and return air covers
  • Wash windows (interior and exterior if accessible)
  • Clean garage — sweep, organize, donate
  • Pressure wash patio, driveway, and walkways (or schedule it)

Pro tip: start with the kitchen and bathrooms

These two areas take the most time and make the biggest difference. If you only have a few hours, focus here. The rest can wait — or you can schedule a professional deep clean for the whole house.
